Bulk Rye Berry Bag Instructions (6lb or 9lb)

USE YOUR GRAIN BAG AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE.

This grain bag can be inoculated with a spore syringe or liquid culture (better).

This grain bag should not be used to fruit mushrooms. The fully colonized grain bag is intended to be mixed into a bulk substrate.

This product requires basic knowledge of mushroom cultivation. If you are a beginner, please do your research first on spore prints, liquid cultures, grain spawn, bulk substrate teks, monotubs and fruiting chambers.

This product and instructions are intended for the cultivation of legal edible mushrooms.

1. Inspect your vacuum sealed bag for contamination and mold. If you see contamination, don’t use the grain bag. Contact us before going any further.
2. Wipe all surfaces, your hands, tools and containers with rubbing alcohol before you start and as needed going forward. 
3. You will now need to get air into the bag through the filter. Hold the grain bag with both hands, pinching the front and back with your thumb and index fingers just above the filter, while holding the bag up in the air. This will slowly let the air in through the filter while keeping the bag sterile. This will take about 10 seconds. Eventually, there should be enough air in the bag so that the filter is not touching the back side of the bag.

4. Once there is enough air in the bag, shake it well and gently, up and down, side to side, to loosen the grains. Gently break up any clumps of grain, if any. Make sure the grains at the bottom of the bag are loose and moisture is evenly distributed.
5. Inject your spores (preferably liquid culture) into the bag through the injection port using a new and sterile needle. 2-5ml solution should be enough, assuming there is enough spores/mycelium in the solution. The denser the spores/liquid culture, the better. Hold the port with your finger as you pull out the needle and place a tape on the needle hole.
6. Shake the bag gently to distribute the injected spores/liquid cultures.
7. Your grain bag is now ready for incubation. Let it sit in a dark, 70-75°F environment until the grains start colonizing. When you see about 25% colonization, break up the grains and shake the bag for faster colonization. Depending on the vigor and vitality of your spores/culture, this should take 14-30 days.
8. When the grains are colonized and all white, you are ready to use your grain spawn to inoculate your bulk substrate. Each grain spawn bag is enough to inoculate 5lb of bulk substrate. Use 30%-50% grain to substrate ratio.
